[Athens – December 6, 2024]
MarTecMA, the Marine Technical Managers Association, is proud to announce that its work has been recognised with the TECHNICAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD at the Lloyd’s List Greek Shipping Awards 2024.
The annual event, held in Athens since 2004, recognises achievement and excellence in a range of categories across the Greek shipping industry and the national maritime cluster.
“This award is not just a recognition of the work we do in this association, but also an encouragement for our members, who generously share their experience and knowledge,” said MARTECMA’s Chairman, Panos Kourkountis. “Together, we aim to collectively address ship management challenges, ensuring we are better informed and prepared for our work every day,” he told the audience of 1,100 industry guests.
Mr. Kourkountis paid tribute to “the visionary individuals who laid the foundation for MARTECMA 25 years ago,” and especially to prior Chairmen Dean Tseretopoulos, Takis Koutris and Stavros Hatzigrigoris.
“Their dedication and foresight have made this organisation what it is today and we have a duty to continue it,” he said.
As noted by the organisers of the Greek Shipping Awards in the citation for MarTecMA, the association was established by a small group of technical managers and shipping company executives, as a forum to discuss issues they faced in managing their fleets, including new regulations and new technologies. It has now grown to about 180 technical executives and 60 associate members, representing other key maritime stakeholders.
During the last two years meetings of MarTecMA 75 different topics have been addressed. These included, to name just a few examples, remote surveys policy, bunker quality and related claims, bans on Russian engineers from some manufacturers’ training programmes, application of EEXI regulations, Australian PSC interpretations on the sensors of Oil Water Separators, and many others.
According to the citation: “MARTECMA has become an indispensable forum and a key competitive advantage for Greek shipping.”
The Technical Achievement trophy was presented by Leonidas Karystios, Global Fleet Technology Director, Gas Carriers, and Regional Business Development Manager of classification society DNV, the award’s sponsor. The event took place at the Athenaeum InterContinental Hotel.
The Greek Shipping Awards, including the Technical Achievement Award, are adjudicated by a judging panel comprised of leading personalities drawn from all sides of the Greek shipping industry and maritime cluster.
