EEDI Presentation to SNAME by PZ

Events | 16 January 2012

Panos Zachariadis, technical director of Atlantic Bulk Carriers Management, told the Greek Section of The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) during its fourth echnical meeting for the 2011-2012 season, that the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) being discussed at IMO still needs a lot of work. He addressed the current status of the EEDI at Imo, what remains to be done and its effects to ships and shipping industry whether they be owners, shipyards, classification societies, charterers or insurers. Zachariadis, speaking at the event December 15, in the auditorium of Maran Tankers, said the orginial formula was in fact against the “safety of navigation” as it was based on low speed / horsepower and “the overall strength and safety of ships”. Zachariadis is a lead member of the team which developed the award winning eight-ship series of 58,000dwt bulkers now delivering from Hyundai Mipo to Atlantic Bulk Carriers.
